A cutting board needs to survive daily chopping without cracking, warping, or dulling your knives. Rubber wood does that better than most hardwoods because it's dense enough to resist deep knife marks while staying forgiving on blade edges.
It also comes from trees already grown for latex production, repurposed once they stop yielding sap — a byproduct material rather than wood cut specifically for furniture.
This board is milled from a single 2.5 cm slab, thick enough to sit flat on the counter without rocking, even under firm chopping pressure. The square and rectangular shapes are cut with the grain running the long way, which is the orientation that resists warping best over repeated washing.
Features
- Solid rubber wood — food-safe and non-toxic, so it's fine for direct contact with raw ingredients
- 2.5 cm thickness — heavy enough to stay flat on the counter, unlike thin bamboo boards that warp
- Square or rectangular shape in three sizes (30 × 20 cm, 36 × 24 cm, 41 × 28 cm) — size up for meal prep, size down for a cheese board
- Closed grain surface — resists absorbing odors and juices the way some open-grain woods do
Sizing Guide
The small board suits quick prep — herbs, a couple of vegetables, a sandwich. The medium size handles a full meal's worth of chopping for two or three people. The large board is built for bigger jobs: breaking down a chicken, prepping a full holiday spread, or serving as a standalone charcuterie board when guests are over.
Who It's For
Good fit if you're replacing a plastic board that's holding onto knife grooves and odors, or if you want one board that works for both prep and serving. If you need something dishwasher-safe, this isn't it — it's a hand-wash board by design, which is what keeps solid wood from splitting.
Care Instructions
- Hand wash with warm soapy water and dry it right away — don't let it air-dry wet
- Skip the dishwasher and skip soaking; standing water is what warps solid wood
- Rub with food-safe mineral oil about once a month to stop the grain from drying out and cracking
- Store it flat or upright somewhere dry, away from direct sun or the stove's heat
