A wooden garlic masher works on the same principle as a stone mortar and pestle, scaled down for a single clove or two — press and twist to break the garlic down into a paste without pulling out a full mortar set for a small amount.
Using it also skips a step some people find tedious: peeling. Rolling a clove firmly under the masher loosens the skin, which then comes off easily by hand.
Features
- Solid wood construction — food-safe and non-toxic
- Doubles as a peeler — rolling pressure loosens garlic skin without a separate tool
- No plastic or electric parts — a simple, low-maintenance alternative to a garlic press with springs and hinges to clean
Who It's For
Good fit if you cook with garlic often and are tired of a metal garlic press that's fiddly to clean between uses. It's not built for large batches — think one to two cloves at a time, not a whole bulb at once.
Care Instructions
- Wipe with a soft, damp cloth after use and dry immediately
- Don't submerge it or run it through the dishwasher — standing water compromises the wood over time
- Rub with food-safe mineral oil once a month to keep the grain vibrant
- Store in a dry spot, away from direct sunlight
